One of the world’s longest high-altitude tunnel opens in Himachal Pradesh which is built at an altitude of 3000m which is 8.8km long tunnel.  The tunnel is located at Manali-Leh highway and is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

After a decade long struggle, the tunnel is now open for vehicular movements which will soon be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the end of September this year.

One of the most important tunnels especially for the Indian Armed Forces where the tunnel provides all-weather access for the Indian forces to Lahaul and the tunnel will become an important road to supply military garrison there.

Also, the tunnel will help tourists explore the unexplored winter destination and also it will cut short the supply route for 40kms. It will ease traffic between Manali and Leh by reducing the travel time for around 5 hours.

Famous for its touristic places such as Manali, Leh, Spiti. Himachal Pradesh is one of the secluded regions to explore during peak winters as it experiences heavy snowfall during the winter months. With the help of this tunnel, the districts will be connected with other parts of Himachal during the winter months and increase tourist inflow during winter months.
