The Union Home Ministry of India recently announced that they are lifting curbs on the entry of Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) Cardholders. However, these restrictions come with certain conditions and it includes certain OCI cardholders which include minors, students, OCI cardholder spouses of Indian National and those who require to travel within India on emergency conditions.
This rule has been announced after All International Flights were suspended during emergency and lockdown was announced on March 24 2020. During this, even OCI cardholders were not permitted to come to India even after the state government were evacuating Indians stranded in various countries.
Many Indians who lost their jobs and those who were stranded in overseas asked the Union ministry to help them get evacuated by special evacuation flights from the US. With the latest announcement from Union Ministry comes a little relief for OCI Card Holders and the Indian-Americans have welcomed this decision. The OCI cardholders are allowed visa-free entry to India and they enjoy almost all the privileges except voting, buying agricultural land and governmental service.
